What to do for a headache after work?

This is on location at Fallen Leaf Lake with Mt Tallac in the background and I’m just taking my dog out for a swim on a break from work. So with the discussion of headaches and if you have one at work, what should you do when you get home to find relief? As mentioned before, tension headaches are really common and posture and stress both play a big role in these headaches, with some other factors as well. First thing you can do if you had a rough day at work and a headache is started, do something you love! If getting outside and going on a hike, swimming, etc., is what you enjoy, do that activity. This gives your mind and body a chance to relax and de-stress. As you decrease your stress level, your breathing changes from a short chest breath to a lower belly slow breath. Along with that is that change in breathing will help your neck muscles relax because they don’t have to do as much work to help you breath. This will start to loosen the neck. Also, doing something different, other than work, will help calm your mind down. Next thing is to analyze what you do for work, whether that is standing all day or sitting all day it doesn’t matter. After you figure your normal work day, go home from walk and do the opposite. For example, if you sit at a desk all day, go home and go for a walk or even just lay on the ground or vise versa if you stand all day. To add to that, you can use something like a rice sock or heating pad and use it on your neck as you lie on the ground. This can get the muscles to relax from the heat and help you relax into a good neck position after sitting all day. This can be an easy option to help de-stress you from the work duties you have and the stress that builds up throughout the day and potentially causing a headache. Another piece of the puzzle would be to make sure you are eating well and staying hydrated. This is a common piece that can go unnoticed for a while and be a recurring concern. Go do what you love, even for a few minutes. Do something that doesn’t stress you out and can help you be able to come down from a stressful day.
