The Opioid Epidemic

The opioid epidemic is a big deal and needs to be brought forward in our minds. A recent study just showed that the amount of deaths from opioids has increased and you are now more likely to die from an opioid overdose (1 in 96 chance) than a car crash (1 in 103 chance). This hopefully can give you a perspective that people are dying from opioid overdoses every day. One of the big concerns is people want to feel better and they feel that opioids may be their only option. This is far from the case. This ties into chiropractic care because there is a lot of research and growing benefit shown from chiropractic care for various problems from headaches and neck pain, low back pain, and down to plantar fasciitis. Medication is not an effective way to make pain “go away”, especially in chronic conditions. Looking for alternative and conservative treatment is a way better option in the sense of safety as well as effectiveness. This is a big concern. Opioids kill more people in America than car crashes and gun violence. Hopefully this was a little eye opening and can help bring an understanding that this is a concern and there are other options available.
