First off, I want to explain that prevention of injury doesn’t guarantee 100% that you won’t get injured. Things will happen and sometimes there is nothing you can do about it. However, there is a lot of things that you can do to help prevent and decrease some injuries or diseases from happening. Whenever you get injured, you move differently. Think of a time when you sprained your ankle or hurt your leg and remember that you walked differently. The common misconception is that when you heal, if all you do is give it time to rest, the chance of that part of the body to be 100% is low. Your body is good at fixing itself, but that doesn’t mean it will move the same afterwords, or it takes longer than you expect the change. When you get injured you move differently and we want to help you get moving better and easier so that you can start moving like you used to before the injury, rather than solidifying improper or dysfunctional movement. However, because you have had this injury, your chances are higher to get the injury again compared to someone who hasn’t had that injury. This is where we can change those habits and get the injury to happen less often, be less severe, and/or last shorter time. When compared to having a chronic problem that comes and goes for years or whatever the case may be, but this dysfunctional or improper movement has been ingrained in your brain to move this way and will continue to return and will likely progressively get worse. It is a long process to try and cure a long-standing injury, it is possible, but will take time. Compare this to if you are trying to keep yourself healthy and moving well, it is so much easier. I always tell my patient’s that it is easier to stay healthy than to get healthy. Do the things that you know will keep you healthy: moving well, eating right, moving often. Sitting around and hoping it will get better will likely come short of your expectations. I love working with people and giving them the tools they need to get better and to keep themselves moving better. Then when the pain returns, you know what you need to do to get yourself on the right path. Prevention is a big part and a better option than waiting till you have to be cured to get moving again. Thanks for watching and keep living the Tahoe lifestyle.
